Moxie Grandma Sharing a Lesson September 24, 2009
Posted by michellewillow in moxie moms. 9 commentsI have met many people. And one lady caught my attention. She really has moxie attitude! And had it in all 60 years of her life. Here is a story about one Moxie Grandma:
Grandma Mary Beth got married young, at 19 and build a home based business with her husband. Got two kids. Loved them and raised them into an educated individuals. Sold a home business and became, in time, a manager, progressing from district manager, to assistant regional manager to regional director. And she started as a preparer, an office supervisor and an instructor – you can say she got from a bottom to the top!
Now, this already shows she has moxie attitude. But, what really inspires me is a fact that she managed to achieve all of this without a collage degree! Still, she wanted to prove herself she could do it. So, at age 56, she fulfilled a longtime goal and graduated from college. And received a BS in Business Management! Now that’s Moxie! And even more for the fact that she retired only a year after that!
Now, how would a Moxie Grandma spend her retirement years? Retiring? Noooo…. This Moxie started a whole new life! She became a writer on Squidoo going for Giant Squid status (having over 50 quality articles published), she runs a Zazzle gallery and CafePress store along with Lighthouse Musings blog. And, she still finds time for her grandchildren, travels and many other interests. She’s a real Moxie!
PS. T-Shirt above can be customized – you can change “Stand on your toes and reach for the stars!” into any text you fancy.
A day in a life of Moxie Mom… September 22, 2009
Posted by michellewillow in moxie moms. 2 commentsThe internet is really a magic place. You can get to know so many great people online, those you surely wouldn’t ever meet in “the real life”….
This is an introduction to one of my online friends, one Moxie Mom whom I’ve met through her Squidoo lenses. And today, I would like to share with you her story…
Tammi is a Real Life Moxie Mom – she raised three special needs children. Over the years, she often heard people say that her life is difficult but never allowed anyone to pity her. She would answer with: “Difficult? Compared to what?”. She says that being a mom, a parent, taught her to love unconditionaly and taught her perservance.
Now, I would like to invite you into her home – into a day in the life of a parent with a disabled child. This is very touching and inspirational story, but also a great learning opportunity for all of us getting in touch with disabled children and their parents.
I’ve learned that it’s not easy to be a Moxie Mom. It’s not easy to be strong for your kids. It’s not easy to be upbeat all (or most of) the time. It’s not easy to often fall asleep with tears in the eyes. It’s not easy seeing pity in eyes of other people.
So, I don’t look at them with pity anymore. I try to be of help and offer a hand. If they accept, it’s great! If not, I try to empathize with the feelings of someone used to do everything by herself. To guard her young with her life.
It’s not easy.
But, quitting isn’t an option. Moxie Moms never give up!
It’s OK to STAND OUT! And stand up! September 21, 2009
Posted by michellewillow in moxie discussions. 1 comment so farSo, I’ve looked up for meaning of moxie… And it said:
Moxie is self possessed confidence. An attitude of fearlessness in everyday circumstances. The capacity to stand alone in favor of an unpopular opinion or course of action with a casual demeanor.
What does it really mean? How can you say if you have a moxie attitude? Or someone you know? I would say: if you’re a person who is not afraid to stand out from the crowd but also to stand up for yourself or those who are close to your heart – you have moxie attitude!
What do you think? Do you have moxie attitude? Do you now how to stand up for yourself?
